The continuation of our past is not our future

April 30, 2020 by Wim GE De Vos Leave a Comment

future is now

Just finished reading for the 3rd time the recent report from the swiss Zukunftsinstitut.

“The road to new growth strategies requires resilience instead of efficiency”

Highly recommended reading if you are interested in looking forward for what can be…

Snippets:

“The next few months will be a window of opportunity, and the course set will have a lasting impact on the coming years, in society and the economy as well as each individual company.“

“For organisations, the most important thing is to switch to the learning mode.”

“Nostalgia may be a private matter, but not a functioning program for the future. Therefore, the new motto is: Let it go – let the world before Corona go. Its continuation is not our future”

“What it now needs most of all is decision-making ability and self-organisation. In every single company.”

“In order to gain an edge in the new game, it is less important how large or financially strong a company is. In- stead, ingenuity is now required: “Ingenuity, not just financial muscle, will become a source of advantage, allowing cleverer firms to operate closer to full speed”

“The next few weeks will be a decisive moment for all companies to set course. Will the leap into a resilience movement towards new, glocal and adaptive networks succeed? Or is there only the way out into an old and definitely tougher competition? Now is the time of op- portunity for new approaches!”

The Lazy-Eight: transformation ⍙ needed

Screenshot 2020-04-30 at 09.04.18

The Holling (1986) lazy–eight adaptive cycle model (Fig. 1) is a powerful and useful metaphor of system dynamics that includes four stages: expansion, preservation, renewal, and innovation

Predicting the future

Today there are more futurologists out there than the total sum of “self-declared expert” national football coaches, presidents of nations and health experts in virology together.

There is a type of of futurologists I find interesting though.

Enter the “The Builders” -> Predicting the future by creating it.

Marc Andreessen & his VC squad wrote a challenging piece recently “It´s time to build“. Check it out.
Triple AAA: Actionable – Ambitious – A-political.
What will you build?

Tim Sweeney & the gaming gang on the metaverse. “Fortnite and the metaverse”
Going beyond the internet.
How to escape the stronghold of Facebook, Google, Apple,…?

Marc Cuban & his entrepreneurial posse on challenges and avenues for action. “What would you do as president“.
Particularly interesting how Cuban mentions existing trends with transformative power.
How do we amplify transformative trends for the better?

Striking how all of them try to predict the future by asking questions, invite to action, look for perspective and see transformation as a way forward.

Maybe, just maybe, we can learn from their approach?

It will be harder for sure than sitting back and consuming what is fed to us.
But it might just be more rewarding and have a real impact if we do…

Small decisions with a BIG impact 🤜🏻.

Robonautas (more info here) is a local business that teaches technology and robotics to kids between 6-12. How cool is that 🔝 !

The objective is for kids to acquire basic skills like teamwork 🤝, structured 🏗 thinking, self esteem 😀 via the weekly workshops.

Through our “Synergy Scholarship: investing in the future” all of us at Genesis Technologies are proud to help 10 young inventors to have access at a full year of Robonautas Jedi teachings.

Small actions with (hopefully) a BIG impact 💥 🏗 👶🏼

ICE cinema = Immersive Cinema Experience
WHY did we come up with ICE cinema:

We believe people want to have a mixed reality room to escape reality together. This is fundamentally different from “watching TV” or “putting on immersive AI or 3D glasses”, which either lacks the experiential element or the social component.

HOW do we go about delivering ICE cinema:

We have created a systematised way for our ICE partners of designing, selling, marketing, demonstrating, producing, delivering the product

WHAT is ICE cinema:

A mixed reality room that guarantees an deeply immersive cinema experience known as “the suspension of disbelief” (=the sensation that your mind tricks you into believing you are “there” “in the movie” “at the concert”) and at the same time has stunning looks (european design) and top quality throughout.

Want to know more?

check out www.ICE-cinema.com and book a training or demo.

Strategy and execution

August 5, 2018 by Wim GE De Vos Leave a Comment

strategy.jpg

2 different ways to look at strategy & execution:

On one hand as a journey using a map 🗺 with precise indications 🔤

In this approach the all-knowing CEO 👨🏾‍🍳 figures out precisely where to go, how to get there and gives clear instruction to his employees what to do every step along the path.

It implies a static view of reality, an infallible “boss” and an army of robot-employees 🤖needing to avoid mistakes when following orders. Mistakes are not an option here.

On the other hand a journey using a compass ✨ combined with landmarks ⛩

Essentially a team-approach 🤝 where the vision on where to go is shared but not the details. Milestones ⛩ are agreed upon and function as landmarks. Each owns a responsibility to figure out and decide how exactly to reach them. Mistakes are part of the learning curve.

This view implies an ever changing world, full of opportunities. It comes with the need for critical, self-starting individuals that aim high 🏹, and therefore sometimes miss.

Which one is the “right” one?

Essentially this is up to how you view yourself and you view the world.

For me it is pretty easy. I very much enjoy working with a bunch of high-energy, strong-minded, smart people.

What about you 👉🏼?
