I will be brief*

I will be frank

I will share what generous wise people have shared with me these last 2 weeks.

Fact 1: We are facing the biggest challenge for small businesses in over 50 years**

Fact 2: This will hit us harder and last longer than any of us expected at first.

Fact 3: The mission of a business is first to survive and then to thrive. In That Order.

Advice:

Self-test and know where you stand – Download your Cash Stress Test NOW..

Evaluate your options and decide – do this together, do it fast.

Embrace your situation and act – maximise Cash & Time

Planning for a a future you cannot predict is a business owners´ job.

It is what we do.

Now is the time to lead.

You owe it to your business, to everyone in and around the company you built, to yourself.

Big decisions, with a big impact. 💥

Time of the Maker Movement: a grassroots technology response to Covid19

Are the “Makers” a “manufacturing microfinance” network and part of the solution in times of crisis like these?

Thousands of “Makers” are responding in Spain, Italy and many other countries to Covid19 by locally manufacturing protective masks, filters, ventilators, spare parts, etc…

Another example that a combination of grit, growthmindset, innovation, technology and grassroots networks we can be part of the solution. All of us.

More information (in spanish) on the Spanish-speaking Maker Movement response to Covid19 via this link:

https://www.coronavirusmakers.org/index.php/es/

🙏🏻 Thankful that our local friends Robonautas have transformed their Kids Maker Lab into a micro manufacturing facility these days. 💪🏻

Maybe other countries can learn from this and win some time or help some local client facing individuals.

Small outfits with a (combined) huge impact 💪🏻.

With this video I wanted to follow up on all the ideas and suggestions I received from you as a reaction to my earlier post “small businesses – 3 Wave Storm coming“. 🙏🏻
Share with you how we as small businesses can get through the first wave of this storm.

I addition I want to propose a #2020businesschallenge to all #businessowners, #directors and #boardmembers:
1. No layoffs
2. zero-profit-year
3. learning opportunity

Looking forward to your feedback as always.

If we work together – learn – be positive, we have the opportunity to come out of this as better people, businesses and as a society.
This is an opportunity in disguise. #bettertogether

Small business: 3 waves 🌊🌊🌊 coming

March 17, 2020 by Wim GE De Vos 3 Comments

IMG_3409 2

This will be challenging.

This will require us to work together.

This will force us to adapt.

This is our #newnormal

This will make us better together.

Towards a #newfuture and #newbalance.

This is a 3-wave storm 🌊 🌊🌊 🌪 we have to weather:

First wave 🌊: back to basics – survival of the fittest

  • Rethink how we work. Focus on our added value. Constraints force us to innovate.
  • Value people, teams and loyalty. Never take this for granted. It is the most valuable part of any business.
  • Cash is the oxygen of a business. This wave will last longer than you think or anyone says. Prepare. We all need air to breathe.

Second wave 🌊: who is left standing – time to transform.

  • few businesses will come out of this stronger – learn from them.
  • most businesses will have suffered but on their feet ready for a comeback – partner with them.
  • some business will be wiped out – be there for the people behind these businesses.

Third wave 🌊: a new world – bounce forward

  • A crisis has winners and losers. For your business this is not about fair. This is about facts. Focus on the winners.
  • Recuperation is like going to the gym. It is hard. There is sweat, effort, often even pain. But it makes you stronger. We will need grit. Stamina. Dedication.
  • The world is different now. It is the one most adaptable to change, that lives within the means available and works co-operatively against common threats that comes out victorious.

So let us lean into the situation. Own it.
Analyse, come together and then act.

This can be an opportunity if we decide it to be.

Listen. Learn. Work. Together.

We will come out of this in few months. Better. Wiser.

#strongertogether #thisisastoryaboutpeople

The above is simply a summary of what I have collected over the last week or so (since Italy 🇮🇹 and Spain 🇪🇸 went in lockdown) – and I will keep adapting as hear more from you all. It is simplified and focussed on “what we can do”. Together.

Share your feedback, suggestions, ideas. We can all learn from each other.

If we come together this situation is an opportunity in disguise. 💪🏻

WOW & after-WOW

March 10, 2020 by Wim GE De Vos Leave a Comment

Screenshot 2020-03-10 at 11.29.57

Extracts from “How Tech Makes an Experience Out of Everything”, WSJ.

Insights in how a company roles & relationships can evolve by using tech to focus on experiences.

“WSJ: Where are the biggest openings for experience to make a difference on the bottom line?

Technology is where the opportunity really is, and the melding of it with the old things. And in the technology space, we think of common things like virtual reality, augmented reality, automation, et cetera, which are important. But what I’m thinking of right now is, are there other facets that you don’t look at, but are about the experience?”

“WSJ: Can traditional, analog companies improve experience?

Do you like Muji [the seller of household items and clothes] products? The lead designer there once said that Muji’s philosophy is to not go after what he calls the wow effect, the first impression. He said at Muji we look for the after wow. The after wow is you buy it, bring it home, and after a month say, that’s good. You know? So the after wow is a deeper experience relationship.

Most of what we award is about “wow!” Which doesn’t realize a recurring revenue service. It’s a “Oh, you really marketed to me really well, I bought it, I kind of tired of it, it isn’t useful for me.” So I’m going to be looking for the after wow.”

“WSJ: So do you have to be patient?

Not patient. Logical. Because its only something you can measure in larger time steps. If you’re trying to measure in a quarter, it’s not possible in a product that you’re trying to get people to enjoy for a year or two years or three years.

We have to think of all products like subscription products. Technically everything is a kind of subscription product; if you go to the supermarket and buy apple they want you to come back and buy apples. Nowadays how there are very few one-time products you buy, even homes.”

Let´s make WOW the standard. Together.
